Know that this might be a test
But it's so real to me
So hard to keep you impressed
When you're not clear with me

—Cults, "Offering"

Vesper has dedicated her life to her faith in Mystra, to the point where she learns she has very little without this consuming her whole identity. When her faith is questioned, she must find out who she is outside of it.

Appearance

Vesper has warm blue skin with freckles. She has gold irises and black sclera. Her shoulder-length hair is black and wavy, and her horns are comparable to an alpine goat's, with a grey base and white tips. She is 171cm (5'6") tall with a stout body build.

History

Vesper has no knowledge of her biological parents, as her mother abandoned her immediately after birth. She dropped the baby tiefling off at a temple dedicated to Mystra, in a small settlement called Wandermere on the way to Baldur's Gate. Vesper was raised communally by the temple clerics, who taught her their ways since infancy. She proved to be a natural study at magical theory and practice, and the clerics instilled in her a deep reverence for their deity. As such, she is unquestioningly devout, for it is all she knows. The clerics feared exposing her to the harshness of the world where a lot of people would mistreat her for being a tiefling, and so they denied her access to it. Vesper's only information about life outside the temple came from the travellers who passed through it, and from books. This led to her being incredible naïve, living such a sheltered life, and while she felt greatly loved by all in the temple, she yearned to experience adventure for herself.

The day eventually came when the clerics of the temple agreed to let Vesper explore Faerûn, so long as it was in the name of expanding her knowledge and connection with the Lady of Mysteries. The prepared her as best they could, warning her about many things she could encounter... but they failed to speak of what to do if taken captive on an illithid nautiloid.

Relationships

  • Lae'zel: Lae'zel's willingness to stay with the group hangs by a thread at first. Things improve with time, but never to the point of true friendship with Vesper.
  • Shadowheart: Shadowheart and Vesper have a tumultuous alliance over the course of their adventure, due to their faiths clashing. Ultimately, they become friends.
  • Astarion: Unfooled by Astarion's front, Vesper believes she can offer him something he truly needs: a friend. This helps restore Astarin's faith in others, and himself.
  • Gale: The romantic interest between Vesper and Gale is put to the test through thier journey more than once, but ultimately they choose each other every time.
  • Wyll: At first, Wyll is all Vesper believes a hero should be, but comes to realize he really is just anothre person under his Blade persona, who needs support too.
  • Karlach: While Vesper and Karlach have romantic tension between them, when forced to ultimately choose, Vesper chooses Gale. luckily they still remain good friends.
  • Halsin: Vesper is good at reading what people need from her, but less good at accepting help from strangers in treturn. She doesn't know what to make of Halsin.
  • Jaheira: Vesper expected Jaheira to be a fantastical, ideal adventurer. Instead, she finds Jaheira to be too intense to fully get close to, but appreciates her advice.
  • The Emperor: Vesper builds quite a strong friendship with the Emperor, and trusts it to the very end.
