Maisie

Maisie Sutherland, also known as "The Maiden of Marid and Moonshae", is a bard with such a strong love for life, that she is capable of finding at least some amount of joy in nearly everything. Full of creativity and passion, she seeks to immortalize all of what inspires her in music.

Maisie is the type to constantly present herself as chipper, even when she's truly feeling down. She only lets herself be sad in private, afraid of negatively impacting others and of ruining her dramatic persona of the perfect bard. She fears that people will not like her unless she provides them with a constant stream of joy and entertainment.

Appearance

Maisie has light green skin, dotted with freckles. Her eyes are coral pink, and her long hair is dark navy with teal highlights. Her ears are fin-like, with pinkish colouring. She is 167cm (5'5") tall, with slight curves.

History

Maisie’s father, Callum Sutherland, was a sailor on a ship that carried cargo between the Moonshae Isles and Waterdeep. On one unfortunate venture, the ship was raided by sahuagin, and Callum was left as the only survivor after he jumped overboard with nothing but a pallet of wood to float on. He drifted for days until he washed up onto the shore of an isolated small island, where he met Maisie’s mother: a marid by the name of Naila, who took pity on the human and nursed him back to health. As the months passed, they sought a deeper of companionship, and soon, Maisie was born.

As Maisie grew older, Callum grew bitterer about being stuck on the island; he felt like they were depriving their daughter of a real life. Naila disagreed, for in her eyes, they had everything they needed; each other. Things came to a head when an opportunity to return to civilization finally arrived: A group of explorers set foot on the island, and offered to take Callum back to the Moonshae Isles with them. After a heated argument, Callum took little Maisie and left with the explorers, never to see Naila again.

Maisie was happily accepted by the people of Caer Callidyrr, believing her to be a blessing upon them. Even from a young age, she was regarded as the life of a party, eager to entertain with dancing and singing. She soon picked up a fiddle, and was hailed as a prodigy in that as well. Maisie had no plans to ever leave her life as an Islander, but when her father died, she decided she needed a change of scenery, at least for a while. This led her to Baldur’s Gate.

• Lae'zel: Lae'zel learns to appreciate that there is beauty in being soft and safe through Maisie.
• Shadowheart: Shadowheart will always be grateful for Maisie going out of her way to help her find the truth about her past.
• Astarion: Astarion can't decide if Maisie is adorable or irritating. (Really, she is both.)
• Gale: Gale appreciates Maisie's positive attitude and courage, finding it hard to be dour in her company.
• Wyll: Maisie reinforces to Wyll that he does not have to be anyone but himself, and that's enough to be loved.
• Karlach: Maisie is very good at saying just the right thing to always make Karlach feel better.
